Church Planting and World Missions

When the newly formed Particular Baptist Missionary Society for the Conversion of the Heathen was preparing to send out their first two missionaries, John Thomas (1757-1800) and William Carey (1761-1834), the Society’s first Secretary, Andrew Fuller (1754-1815), said:

“Our undertaking in India really appeared to me at its commencement to be somewhat like…penetrating into a deep mine, which had never before been explored…while we were thus deliberating, Carey, as it were, said, “Well, I will go down, if you will hold the rope.” But before he went down, he, as it seemed to me, took an oath from each of us at the mouth of the pit to this effect, that, while we lived, we should never let go of the rope.”

Each of us has a vital role to play in the cause of world missions. If we are not among those sent out as missionaries, we are called to “hold the ropes” for those who are through fervent prayer, financial support, and encouragement. The goals of each of our missionaries and national pastors are to evangelize the lost, plant local churches, and mentor indigenous elders in each church until the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).

The Harvest Field Prayer Guide is an 8 page pamphlet our church has been publishing monthly since July of 2020. Each edition features a monthly national prayer focus, followed by specific prayer requests for each day of the month submitted by ministers from all around the world. Each missionary and national pastor endorsed by our church, whose prayer requests are included in our monthly Prayer Guide, fully subscribes to The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (1677/89). Our current missionaries and national pastors are:
